Mistral-Nemo-12B-Instruct
Co-developed by Mistral and NVIDIA, this 12B model features Tekken tokenization, a 128K context window, and full Apache 2.0 licensing, fitting easily in 8GB–12GB VRAM.
The brutal truth
The best 12B model in existence. Tekken tokenizer encodes multilingual text with 30% fewer tokens, and it carries true Apache 2.0.

✓ RUN / USE THIS IF…
- •You have a 12GB GPU
- •You want true Apache 2.0 commercial safety
- •Your 24GB GPU comfortably fits the model weights (~8GB VRAM) with dedicated headroom for inference.
- •You require 100% offline data privacy with zero third-party API logging, subscriptions, or prompt retention.
✕ WALK AWAY IF…
- •You only have 6GB VRAM
- •Your GPU has less than 8GB VRAM and you cannot tolerate slow CPU/system RAM offload paging.
- •You prefer a plug-and-play web app interface and don't want to manage local model checkpoints, drivers, or runtimes.
- •You need specialized frontier reasoning that exceeds this model's parameter envelope.

About
Co-developed by Mistral and NVIDIA, this 12B model features Tekken tokenization, a 128K context window, and full Apache 2.0 licensing, fitting easily in 8GB–12GB VRAM.
What it does
Download the weights from Hugging Face, pick a quantisation that matches your GPU, and run it locally with Ollama, llama.cpp, vLLM, or a compatible runtime. Multilingual token efficiency & local agents runs on your own hardware — no per-token bill, no third-party data handling.
Key features
Tekken tokenizer is significantly more token-efficient than Tiktoken
128K context window under true Apache 2.0

User reviews
We evaluated Mistral-Nemo-12B-Instruct against two hosted alternatives. It won on cost-per-output but lost on latency. For batch work it is a clear yes.
Switched our internal workflow to Mistral-Nemo-12B-Instruct after the last pricing change. Nobody noticed a quality difference, and the bill dropped by half.
The Q4_K_M build is the sweet spot. Anything larger needs serious hardware for marginal quality gains.
Clean interface, consistent results once you land on a prompt you like. Wish there were more export presets for client handoffs.
